NOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Â
Over the past month, I had the privilege of working alongside a dedicated team of volunteers with the Hurricane Helene Airlift Relief effort. From a hangar at the Statesville Regional Airport, we unloaded, organized, and packed essential survival supplies for helicopters, planes, and ground transport. Although I could only serve for two and a half days, some volunteers worked tirelessly, giving all they had. I quickly realized that every single role—from breaking down boxes to loading the planes—was crucial to getting supplies to our neighbors in the remote mountains of Western NC and TN as quickly as possible, with some areas initially accessible only by air.
Yet, despite the mountains of donated goods and the hands-on support of countless volunteers, it became overwhelmingly clear that even our combined efforts weren’t enough. Now, well over a month out from the hurricane, Western NC is still in dire straits. Many families in isolated areas remain without basic resources, and entire communities are far from recovery. This experience showed me how vital it is to keep showing up—because the road to rebuilding is long and requires sustained, ongoing support.
The Homes for Helene Sticker Campaign with GoFundMe was my first thought to raise support. But after serving alongside the incredible team in Western NC, God placed it on our hearts (the hubs and I) to donate our family RV. This act marked the beginning of a meaningful partnership with United Carolinas Cavalry (UCC), as the RV now serves as a mobile unit for their crew, providing essential support where it’s needed most. Yet even after donating our RV, I was left with a sinking feeling that it still wasn’t enough. People still needed RVs, housing, and support. I knew I wanted to help multiple organizations and families, and that’s how the sticker campaign truly came to life—a way for everyone to chip in and make a difference.
Now, for just a donation of $10, you can help support these ongoing efforts. keep a visible reminder of this mission close. You will receive your honorary Homes for Helene Sticker/s as a visible reminder of our neighbors and their struggles.  Let it prompt you to pray for the families and communities working to rebuild.

The Mission: Evolving to Partnerships
While I initially considered starting my own nonprofit, I decided instead to support two incredible organizations close to my heart: United Carolinas Cavalry in Statesville and The Gathering Church in Asheville.
- United Carolinas Cavalry (UCC) was born after the Statesville Hurricane Helene Airlift Relief effort recognized the continued need for support. UCC believes in the power of community to overcome adversity. Their mission is to provide timely disaster relief, rallying support through grassroots initiatives and collaborative volunteer efforts.
- The Gathering Church in Asheville has been on my heart for years; my friend April’s husband is one of their pastors, and April and I have been friends since serving together in Nicaragua 14 years ago. When the hurricane hit, I reached out to check on her, and she began sharing firsthand the devastation in Asheville and surrounding areas. I knew I had to support her and the church’s efforts to serve those communities hit hardest.
Staying Flexible as Urgent Needs Evolve
The needs on the ground are changing every day. While it seemed just two weeks ago that many were stepping up to provide RVs for families, the situation remains critical, and I’m still hearing of families in dire need. Also, with many volunteers coming to provide support the need for housing is crucial. At one point, we thought a Volunteer Hub would be the best way to support on-the-ground efforts, yet with each passing day, new priorities emerge.Â
With your help, we can remain adaptable, responding to the most urgent needs in real time. Whether it’s providing temporary RV housing for families and/or volunteers or critical repairs for permanent homes, your donations will go directly toward creating a safe HOME for those in need.
By purchasing a Homes for Helene sticker, you’re supporting a campaign dedicated to evolving with this resilient community and making a real difference, one step at a time.

#1 Raise Money to Provide Shelter for Displaced Individuals
The needs in Western NC are changing daily, but one thing remains constant: the urgent need for shelter, especially with winter approaching.
With the help of our partners, April and Robert Knight from The Gathering Church in Asheville and United Carolinas Cavalry, we’ll be able to determine the best use of funds as needs evolve. Whether it’s purchasing an RV as a “Volunteer Hub,” gifting an RV to a displaced family, or supporting a family in rebuilding their home, we’re committed to providing stable housing for those in need.
Our Goal: If we can raise $50,000, we could help provide several families with safe, essential housing.
Thanks to my connections in the RV world, where I’ve worked with The Tidewater RV Show in Virginia Beach for several years, I know what to look for and who to contact in the industry. I’ve already spoken with a dealer ready to support our mission however they can—so stay tuned for updates!

#2 Lean on The Gathering Church & United Carolinas Cavalry to Guide Housing Efforts
As the needs in Western NC change daily, we’re leaning on our trusted partners at The Gathering Church and United Carolinas Cavalry to help us determine the next steps. Whether that means purchasing RVs, supporting a Volunteer Hub, or helping families rebuild, these boots-on-the-ground organizations know best what’s needed.
One thing is clear: the recovery in Western NC is far from over. As we move into the holidays, many nonprofits will shift focus to meals and seasonal support, but our mission will stay steady. Every dollar we raise will go directly toward providing shelter—whatever form that may take.
Your support allows us to adapt to real-time needs and ensure that the people of Western NC have a safe place to call home.

#3 Directing Volunteers to Where They're Needed Most
We're committed to guiding volunteers toward the most impactful opportunities as we work closely with United Carolinas Cavalry and April Knight with The Gathering Church.Â
Right now, there is an urgent need for help at various drop-off locations in Western NC. Countless clothing donations have arrived, but there aren’t enough volunteers to sort and organize them. Many of these items—like summer clothes—aren't practical for the current conditions in the mountains.
There’s also a critical need for skilled construction workers and laborers, as well as everyday people willing to lend a hand. You can find the Gathering Church's individual and mission team sign up sheet on our Facebook page. The needs are vast and varied, and every helping hand matters.
We’ll keep you updated on specific volunteer opportunities through our Homes for Helene Facebook page so you can stay involved.Â
 I'M DANA.
I currently live in Virginia Beach, Va. But my hometown is Statesville, NC- just an hour and a half away from the devastation in the mountains caused by Hurricane Helene on September 27, 2024.Â
In seeing the urgent needs firsthand, I felt a strong calling to do more for the state I love so much. I wanted to do more. While I was one step away from launching my own nonprofit, I decided to support two non profits that are near and dear to my heart.
The first is United Carolinas Cavalry (the nonprofit that was birthed from Hurricane Helene Airlift Relief Effort). I fell in love with these people in Statesville and could see their hearts vividly during the short time I served. We were led to donate our RV to them to use as a medical missions hub for them in the mountains to work from. And now a little piece of our heart & family is serving the needs of our neighbors in a tangible way! It has been such an honor to partner with them!Â
The second is The Gathering Church in Asheville. I am good friends with April Knight, whose husband is a Pastor at The Gathering. I became fast friends with April about 14 years ago. We served alongside each other in Nicaragua and have supported each other from afar for years since. They have stepped up in a BIG way to assist these small mountain towns outside of Asheville. Once you start following them, be prepared for your heart to melt. They are some of the kindest, Christ centered, heart driven people I know just serving their communities in need.Â
I realized that by joining forces with other nonprofits we could get help to NC faster and more effectively. This ongoing partnership allows us to channel resources and efforts into providing much-needed support, including our mission with #HomesforHelene.
I truly believe that when we work TOGETHER we are BETTER.
Thank you so much for time and consideration.
