Practical Support for Hair Loss: A Layered, Root-Cause Approach

If you’ve been walking through hair loss or increased shedding, you are not alone. And if you’ve been thinking…

“Okay, I get the why… but what do I actually DO?”

I hear you.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about labs, metabolic health, stress, and environmental load — all incredibly important pieces of the puzzle. But today, I want to give you something practical.

Not quick fixes. Not hype.

Just a layered, intentional approach to supporting hair growth while you work on the root causes.

Because here’s the truth — hair loss is rarely just one thing. It can be connected to thyroid health, stress, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic dysfunction, and even environmental exposures.

So instead of chasing one magic solution…
we build support in layers.

Let’s walk through it together.

Understanding Hair Loss (Why It’s Not Just One Thing)

Hair loss can be influenced by multiple internal and external factors, including:

  • Thyroid imbalances
  • Blood sugar dysregulation
  • Chronic stress
  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Environmental toxins

When the body feels stressed or under-resourced, it prioritizes survival — not hair growth.

Which is why we support the body as a whole.

Layer 1: Nutrition First (The Foundation of Hair Growth)

Hair is not essential tissue — meaning your body will divert nutrients elsewhere if it needs to.

So before anything else… we start with food.

Key Foods That Support Hair Health

  • High-quality protein (eggs, grass-fed beef, wild salmon)
  • Bone broth (collagen + amino acids)
  • Sardines (omega-3s + trace minerals)
  • Pumpkin seeds (zinc)
  • Dark leafy greens (iron + folate)
  • Brazil nuts (selenium for thyroid support)

Stable blood sugar and adequate protein intake create a safer internal environment for hair growth.

Layer 2: Internal Support (Herbs, Collagen + Stress Support)

Herbal Support: Horsetail (Silica + Structure)

Horsetail is rich in silica, which supports connective tissue — including hair, skin, and nails.

One of my long-time herbal favorites for strengthening hair, skin, and nails is Horsetail. Herbs are powerful! And this one...It’s rich in silica, which supports connective tissue and structural integrity.

I like using Horsetail in a formula called HSN-W from Nature’s Sunshine. Herbal combinations tend to be more powerful.

Collagen for Structural Support

Collagen is another foundational layer. While hair is made of keratin, collagen provides the amino acid foundation needed for healthy growth cycles.

Consistent intake matters more than perfection.

Here is the collagen I personally use and trust:

Stress Support Matters More Than You Think

Chronic stress is one of the biggest drivers of hair shedding. Supporting the nervous system is not optional — it’s foundational.

NutriCalm fits here as a gentle support tool during high-stress seasons. It’s a thoughtful blend of natural extracts, vitamin C, and B-complex vitamins designed to support the nervous system and help maintain a more peaceful mindset. It gives your body additional nutrient support when stress is high — so use it as a support.

These supports don’t replace root work — but they help your body while you’re doing it.

Layer 3: Scalp Health (Because Follicles Need the Right Environment)

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. If the scalp is inflamed, imbalanced, or clogged — growth is compromised.

Scalp Support Options

  • Restorative sprays (like Rowe Casa Hair Spritz)
  • Microbiome-supportive scalp oils
  • Clean, non-toxic hair care

The next few recommendations are topical treatments to support a healthy scalp.

Hair Care Lines I Recommend for Hair Loss

I personally rotate between Evolvh and Prose, and I genuinely love both for different reasons. I'm also sharing one recommendation that I have not used yet, but hear lots of good things!

Rowe Casa Restorative Hair Spritz

I have not personally used this but hear amazing things about it from my colleagues. This spritz is a powerful, restorative solution that stimulates new hair growth and thickness while combating bald, thinning, and brittle hair. It could also help with dandruff.

Evolvh Better Roots Line (for scalp health + ingredient integrity)

I've seen impressive density and strengthening results over several months of consistent use with this line from Evolvh.

  • Ceramide-rich scalp oil supports microbiome balance
  • Reduces shedding and breakage
  • Calms inflammation
  • Synthetic fragrance-free
  • SLS-free, silicone-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free

Prose (for customization)

Prose is another line I use and love. They create customized shampoo, conditioner, and scalp treatments specific to your needs. If you want personalization, this is a great option.

  • Personalized formulations
  • Great for unique hair needs

Consistency matters more than perfection.

Layer 4: Red Light Therapy for Hair Growth

If I had to choose one supportive tool beyond nutrition and stress work? Hands down, it would be red light therapy. Specifically, 660nm red light applied to the scalp for 6–12 minutes daily.

Red light therapy (specifically 660nm) supports:

  • Cellular energy (mitochondrial function)
  • Circulation to hair follicles
  • Growth cycle support

The emerging literature on red light and hair growth is incredible. It supports follicular stimulation and cellular energy (mitochondrial support), which plays a role in growth cycles.

This is not an overnight fix. Honestly, most protocols suggest daily use for at least 3 months. You may see some changes sooner — but consistency is key.

How to Use Red Light Therapy for Your Scalp

  • 6–12 minutes daily
  • Consistency for at least 3 months
  • Can be used at home

REMEMBER YOUR ISSUES DIDN'T GET HERE OVERNIGHT SO YOU CAN NOT EXPECT THEM TO RESOLVE OVERNIGHT.

My personal favorite device is the Lumebox. It’s portable, powerful, and incredibly easy to use.

You can get it at a $260 discount through my Lumebox partner link here:

Here’s an incredibly informative Lumebox YouTube overview on red light and hair growth:

I truly love this tool. It’s one of my most-used wellness devices. I can not recommend it enough. And if you have one and it is collecting dust - GET IT OUT and start using it NOW!

Putting It All Together (Why a Layered Approach Works)

None of these layers replace labs. None override stress management. None replace metabolic stability.

But layered intentionally?

They can be powerful. Together, they create an environment where your body feels safe enough to grow again.

If you’re walking through hair shedding right now, I want you to hear this clearly —

You’re not behind.
You’re not broken.
And this is something you can support.

Take a breath. Pick one layer. Start there.
Small, intentional steps really do add up over time.

If this was helpful, I’d love to hear from you ❤️
